On July 10, 2026, Noriko Tanaka, Representative of the Society Concerned about Gambling Addiction, delivered a lecture on gambling addiction at the Hyogo Prefectural Police Academy, addressing an audience of over 200 cadets.

This lecture was made possible thanks to the dedicated efforts and generous support of many people, including members of the Hyogo Prefectural Assembly.

The lecture focused on the perspective that gambling-related problems may underlie various workplace troubles and cases of misconduct.

Throughout the session, a great number of cadets attended with earnest attention. It was particularly encouraging that many raised their hands when asked whether they were aware that gambling addiction is recognized as a medical disorder.

We hope that this lecture will not only contribute to the prevention and awareness of addiction, but also help future police officers develop the perspective needed to recognize gambling-related issues that may lie behind incidents they encounter and connect those affected with appropriate support.

In recent years, our organization has received an increasing number of consultations involving crimes associated with gambling-related problems. For this reason, delivering preventive education within an institution like the police academy is considered highly meaningful.

We sincerely hope that this pioneering initiative will serve as a model for police academies across Japan, promoting greater understanding of addiction, strengthening prevention efforts, and fostering systems that enable timely and appropriate support for those in need.
