Calling for Stronger Measures Against Gambling Addiction at the Cross-Party Parliamentary Group
On Monday, May 11, 2026, our organization participated in a study session held by the “Cross-Party Parliamentary Group for Countermeasures Against Gambling Addiction” at the First Members’ Office Building of the House of Representatives.
The meeting was attended by over 100 people, including members of the Diet from various political parties, their secretaries, and representatives from relevant government ministries, all gathered to discuss the further promotion of addiction countermeasures.
The meeting was attended by over 100 people, including members of the Diet from various political parties, their secretaries, and representatives from relevant government ministries, all gathered to discuss the further promotion of addiction countermeasures.
During this session, members of our Bereaved Families Group were present to deliver a direct message to the lawmakers:
“Gambling leads to death.”
With these poignant words—spoken only as those who have lost precious family members can—they appealed for the urgent need to address deficiencies in the current support system and to fundamentally strengthen prevention measures. The heavy reality of this testimony resonated deeply with many attendees, reinforcing a shared sense of urgency regarding “measures to protect lives.”
Our organization provided an updated report on the current situation surrounding gambling addiction and shared materials reflecting the voices of those on the front lines. In the subsequent Q&A session, a lively exchange of opinions took place, covering everything from immediate challenges to future policy proposals. It was a highly significant opportunity that reaffirmed the high level of interest in resolving addiction issues at the national policy level.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the members of the Parliamentary Group for organizing this valuable forum, and to everyone who attended despite their busy schedules.
Our organization remains committed to raising awareness and advocating for policy changes to ensure that individuals struggling with addiction and their families can access the support they need.
