Gambling Addiction Prevention Education Session Held at the University of Yamanashi!
On May 11, 2026, we condacted a gambling addiction prevention education session at the University of Yamanashi for approximately 60 students from the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, and the Faculty of Education.
First, members of our Nurses’ Division provided an explanation of gambling addiction. They emphasized that while anyone can develop a gambling addiction, it is a treatable “illness.” They also strongly urged students to avoid gambling during their college years, refrain from inviting friends to gamble, and never lend or borrow money.
Following this, a staff member from Grace Lord, a rehabilitation facility for gambling addiction, shared firsthand experience of recovery, while a member of the National Association of Family of Gambling Addiction shared her own experience.
During the final Q&A session, students asked specific and practical questions, such as how to approach a friend who might have a gambling problem and how a family should respond if their own child develops an addiction in the future. These questions reflected the students’ strong interest and engagement in the topic.
